There is a popular phrase the folks at the NFL have apparently forgotten. It says, “don’t bite the hand that feeds you.” The NFL likes to sell themselves as the all-American product. They advertise their league alongside the American flag. However, when it is time to prove their allegiance to that ideal they have suddenly taken a different stand.
Take for instance the national anthem controversy. The controversy began last year during the Obama presidency when Forty Niner QB Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem. He did so to protest a police ncident in which a black man was allegedly killed unnecessarily by a white police officer. Last June, that police officer was acquitted of that crime by a jury of his peers. One would think that kneeling before the national anthem would subside now with the facts of that case had finally been revealed.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t. The anthem protests have officially been condoned by NFL leadership, owners and players association. As a sign of unity they are all going along with this out of control disrespect during the national anthem. These people are paid handsomely in the millions. The league makes billions worldwide. What do they think will be the after effect of all these protests every Sunday on the general public? We know that since this bull crap started over a year ago, ratings for the NFL games have plunged considerably.
Recent polling tells us the reason for the plummeting ratings is a majority of Americans are disgusted by the antics of these overly paid prima donnas. The American people are offended by their disrespect. So they have stopped watching NFL games altogether.
Not only are the anthem protests disgusting, the poor play and end zone celebrations have an effect on viewership declining.. One example of this foolish behavior was on display Sunday when New York Giant’s wide receiver and NFL poster boy Odell Beckham Jr. scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter of a game against the Philadelphia Eagles.. After scoring the touchdown Mr. Beckham got on all fours in the end zone to mimic a dog peeing in the end zone. A question needs to be asked to the NFL and their poster boy Odell Beckham Jr.. Is this a gesture that warrants respect?
After another touchdown, Mr. Beckham held up his fist in air as a display of black liberation power. That is a gesture that hasn’t been seen since the Olympics during the turbulent 1960’s. Is it going to be acceptable for the children in this country to act this way after they score touchdowns in their pee wee football games?
Tell me? Do these NFL players believe they are living in a country that will accept this odd and outrageous behavior. If this continues to be condoned by the bone heads in the NFL, you can kiss your pathetic association goodbye! If you expect ordinary Americans to continue to subsidize this anti-American behavior through ticket sales and television revenue you are sorely mistaken. As you see viewership continue to decline and ticket sales plunge, it may be a little to late for the NFL to sustain its profitability.
They are failing to understand the real economic damage they are doing to their sport. They should remember their demise will not be the fault of Barack Obama or Donald Trump. The fault will lie with the National Football League for their failure to understand one simple fact. “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you!”
