I will submit this is likely not an original observation on my part – but is there something eerily similar about this past weeks Nasdaq behavior; and the beginning of the dot.com blow up from March 2000?
It is like a long strange trip, electric Kool-Aid flashback when today I look at Priceline – which has now dropped -220 points from it’s March 6th high. Google now down -126 points from February 26th. Netflix down -97 points from March 6th as well.
And what about Tesla? They sell less cars in a full calendar year than Ford sells pickups in a single month. TSLA has been bitch-slapped now for -62 points since February 26th. Amazon? down -53 points in just the past two weeks.
And lets not forget the Russell 2000 Index which they have been beating on like a rented mule lately. Down -66 points on it’s own since March the 4th. WHAT GIVES?
I don’t know if history is rhyming here or repeating. Blow me down. Are the lemmings marching predictably to the precipice? An alternating seven year cycle conspiracy sure comes to mind…
The president of the United States gave a speech to dignitaries in Belgium today. It was a speech that was breathtaking in hypocrisy. In the paragraph below he sounded like a Tea party conservative. He talked about “free will.” How can you have that when he is imposing new illegal and ever changing healthcare laws that bypass congress? IRS nazi-like attacks on conservative groups? He praises the founding documents overseas while on stateside he says those same documents are “negative liberties” If we are all created equal as he states below, how come he treats Americans differently in his “class warfare” rhetoric? After the speech, Europe was not impressed. Same response from America.
“The belief that through conscience and free will, each of us has the right to live as we choose. The belief that power is derived from the consent of the governed, and that laws and institutions should be established to protect that understanding. Those ideas eventually inspired a band of colonists across an ocean, and they wrote them into the Founding documents that still guide America today, including the simple truth that all men—and women—are created equal.”
A 200-year-old beach house under renovation in Chatham collapsed after heavy winds from today’s coastal storm blew it off its foundation, officials said. “It’s right across from the beach, and it looks like the gusts of wind twisted it sideways and then it started to pancake,” said Chatham Fire Department Deputy Chief Peter Connick. The single-story historic home on Main Street had been elevated on blocks as it underwent renovation, Connick said. Chatham firefighters responded to the collapse at 7:11 a.m. No injuries were reported. The house was unoccupied and had been fenced off by contractors as it was under construction. Authorities have not yet determined the cost of damage to the home. “I mean, how do you value history?” Connick said.
“The group of five major emerging national economies known as the BRICS has rejected the Western sanctions against Russia and the “hostile language” being directed at the country over the crisis in Ukraine.”
“The escalation of hostile language, sanctions and counter-sanctions, and force does not contribute to a sustainable and peaceful solution, according to international law, including the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter,” foreign ministers of the BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – said in a statement issued on Monday.”
