Fly The Friendly Skies?

United Airlines is the third most powerful airline in the entire world. They are famous for using the popular 1925 George Gershwin “Rhapsody In Blue” masterpeice in one of the most successful marketing campaigns of all time called, “fly the friendly skies.”  They have used the same marketing slogan today as they did forty years ago. However, does this friendly marketing slogan still apply today after what happened to a passenger on a United flight Sunday night at O’hare International Airport?

Because of overbooking, a passenger aboard a flight bound for Louisville, Kentucky was forcefully dragged off a United Airlines flight at O’hare airport in Chicago, Illinois. The third most powerful airline company in the world that runs a successful advertising campaign slogan, “fly the friendly skies” is now forcefully dragging American customers off their airplanes with no questions asked. Is this America or a third world socialist dictatorship?

For Americans that need to fly these days they first must spend multiple hours standing in a TSA line only to get sexually groped by armed security officers in order to pass a security check point. We do all this just to earn the opportunity to sit in a expensive seat on an overly booked airline flight?

After all the airport hassle one has to go through, we used to feel safe when we finally made it aboard our United Airlines flight. Not anymore. There is nothing friendly about a airline company that routinly overbooks flights that causes the violent removal of a paying customer. It’s wrong and bad for business. United Airlines should be ashamed of their behavior. When you want your customers to, “fly the friendly skies.”  Then act like it.
